General Questions

How much does it cost to…”

We have a minimum diagnostic fee of $54.50. After the technician takes a look at the situation, he will give you an upfront price and get your approval before staring any work. If you decide to do the work, the minimum diagnostic fee will be waived.

“Do you offer financing?”

Yes. We have teamed up with an independent lending company to offer convenient financing options and special financing offers with approved credit. Visit our financing page for more information.

“Do you give free estimates?”

Yes, on drain cleaning services and replacement jobs for water heaters, water softeners, heating and air systems, duct work, and sewer, water, and gas lines. We also offer free estimates on large commercial or residential remodel jobs. Call us at 806-355-4663 or schedule your free estimate online.

“What are your normal business hours?”

Monday – Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. We are available 24 hours a day for emergencies.

“Can I schedule an appointment for an exact time?”

We do our best to work with your schedule, but unfortunately it is difficult to schedule exact appointment times for all of our service calls. You don’t have to wait around all day though – we can call you are work or on your cell phone and let you know when we are on our way.

“Do you go out of town?”

Yes. Scottco will service homes and business within a 60-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. Mileage fees may apply to some out of town calls. Please call us at 806-355-4663 for more information.

“What guarantees or warranties do you offer on your services and products?”

We warranty all repairs for 30 days. There is a one year labor warranty on all installations including, water heaters, coils, condensers, furnaces, and sewer, water, and gas lines. Please contact us for more information about specific warranties.

“I have a home warranty with a home warranty company. Can you do the work?”

Yes, just give us a call and let us know your situation. We do not work directly for home warranty companies, so your warranty company will need to reimburse you for any work that is done.

Plumbing Questions

“Is it safe to use chemical drain cleaners?”

We don’t recommend using chemical drain cleaners. They can have some very toxic and corrosive chemicals in the mixture. Those could be harmful to children and pets if improperly stored, they can be harmful to pipes, and may have chemicals that are harmful to beneficial bacteria in septic tanks. For maintenance we recommend Bio-Clean. It’s natural bacteria and enzymes digest organic waste found in your plumbing system. For stoppages use a plunger. If you can’t clear the drain with a plunger we recommend that you give us call and let one of our drain cleaning experts address the problem for you.

“Why does my toilet keep running?”

It’s basically an internal water leak. The average leaky toilet can waste about 200 gallons of water per day running up your water bill. Leaky toilets can be caused by the toilet flapper, incorrect chain adjustment, or float ball problems.

“How do I fix a jammed garbage disposal?”

Unplug the garbage disposal or turn off the breaker controlling the garbage disposal. Insert the correct size Allen wrench into the bottom of the disposal and crank both directions a few times to free-up the impellers. Once you have freed up the impeller use tongs and remove the object/s that caused the jam. Plug the disposal back in or turn back on the breaker controlling the disposal and test. Don’t try to run a disposal the just hums but doesn’t grind, it could burn out the motor. If you are unable to free the disposal with an Allen wrench we recommend that you schedule a service call and allow one of our plumbers to correct the problem.

“Is there anything I can do to make my current system last longer?”

One of the easiest ways to extend the life of your heating and air system is to change your air filters every 30 days. Dirty filers can reduce your system’s efficiency and result in more frequent repairs. To help you remember to change your filters, Scottco can install a programmable thermostat that gives you filter reminders. Pre-season tune-ups are also highly recommended for your furnace, air conditioner and/or heat pump. “Can you help me lower my utility bills?”

“How long does it take to install new equipment?”

Our highly trained installation crews are very efficient and in most cases can complete residential equipment replacements in one or two days.

“Some of my rooms are too hot or too cold. Can you help?”

Yes. We have new technologies available that allow us to balance and distribute air much more effectively, allowing for better temperature control and providing a more comfortable living environment.

“Is it difficult to add another duct where I need more air?”

No, in most cases we can add more air to almost any location, provided that your system will support the change.

“My air conditioner seems to run constantly in the summer time. Is that a bad thing?”

“How large of a system should I have?”

“Should I get an evaluation of my electrical system?”

You should get an Electrical Evaluation according to the Electrical Safety Foundation if:

  • Your home is 40 years old or older
  • Your home has had a major addition, renovation or major new appliance added in the last 10 years.
  • Your lights often flicker or dim momentarily
  • Circuit breakers trip or fuses blow often
  • Outlet and light switch plates are hot to the touch or discolored
  • You hear crackling, sizzling or buzzing for your outlets
  • You use extension cords and multiple power strips permanently in use around the house.
